“Am I a carnivore yet, then?”
Hibari stopped dead in his tracks, a scowl decorating his face as he spun on his heel and started to storm his way back to the brunet who bravely stood his ground. Expecting brown eyes locked on to the man’s steel-gray ones, too filled with hope.
The cloud grabbed a handful of hair, yanking the brunet closer, until their faces were inches apart, his eyes not breaking the gaze either. It was like he was trying to intimidate the smaller, but to no avail. Baring his teeth, he growled, “No.”
“Why not?” Tsuna frowned, his eyes narrowing and he pushed himself away from the other. “I beat you fair and square, 5 times in a row, without any handicap! I know five isn’t much, but hasn’t this proved my strength to you yet?” The man crossed his arms and huffed. Rolling his shoulders, he decided to put his blazer back on, figuring this conversation wasn’t going to get anywhere.
“You’re a fool, herbivore,” Hibari stepped back. “Your status as an herbivore or a carnivore doesn’t change based on how strong you are.”
The brunet perked an eyebrow. “It doesn’t?” He turned to face Hibari. “I thought it was your way of categorizing who to bite and who to bite extra hard.”
“No.” Hibari frowned. “You see, you’re an herbivore. No matter what you do, you can’t change your basic dietary needs.”
Tsuna frowned and tilted his head in inquiry. Was he… getting a biology lecture? He stayed silent, urging Hibari to continue.
“You’re an herbivore because you don’t seek out fights. You don’t need fights in order to properly thrive. If in this analogy fighting is meat and friendship is plants, then do you see why you are still an herbivore and I am not?” Hibari crossed his arms and tapped his foot.
Tsuna’s eyes widened. “That’s what it means?” He blinked, as if he’d reached an epiphany. Hibari merely rolled his eyes. “You call everyone an herbivore because you always see them crowding with another person.”
“Therefore friendship— or rather, plants— is in their needs to function as a living being.” Hibari said. “You, on the other hand. I know you hate fighting, and you could live fine or even better without it.”
“So that makes me an herbivore.” Tsuna nodded slowly. “Then, what about you? You’re crowding with me.”
Hibari frowned. “No, I am not. I could live fine without you.”
The brunet finally cracked a smile and came closer to the other, cupping his face with his hands. “You know that’s a lie,” he whispered, letting a soft chuckle escape his lips as Hibari’s cheeks colored a subtle pink from a little embarrassment. Quickly, Tsuna pecked his lips on the other’s nose before pulling back.
“Then, perhaps, you should be an omnivore, hmm?” Tsuna teased.
Hibari frowned. “Only to you, little animal,” he muttered, before swiftly turning away and fleeing the room.
